On Saturday, 11 July 2026, Simpson Memorial Hall in Moston came alive with colour, music, laughter and a shared sense of community as we celebrated Africa Day 2026. Under this year’s theme, “United in Culture, Celebrating Africa’s Heritage, Culture and Achievements,” the event brought together people of all backgrounds to honour the richness and diversity of the African continent.
From the moment the doors opened, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming. Families, young people, community leaders and local residents gathered to enjoy an afternoon filled with exciting performances, delicious African cuisine, cultural exhibitions and engaging activities for all ages. The event showcased the beauty of African traditions while creating opportunities for people from different communities to connect, learn and celebrate together.
One of the highlights of the day was the variety of live entertainment. Talented performers captivated the audience with music, dance and cultural displays that reflected the diversity and creativity found across Africa. The fashion showcase also drew admiration, celebrating African textiles, designs and craftsmanship while promoting cultural pride and identity.
Visitors also enjoyed an array of authentic African dishes, giving everyone the chance to experience the continent’s rich culinary traditions. Alongside the food and entertainment, community organisations and local partners shared information about their services, strengthening relationships and encouraging greater community engagement.
We were especially honoured to welcome the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Shaukat Ali, as our Special Guest. His presence highlighted the importance of recognising and celebrating the contributions of African communities to the social, cultural and economic life of Manchester. We sincerely thank him for taking the time to join us and support this important occasion.
Most importantly, we would like to thank everyone who attended. Your enthusiasm, participation and community spirit made the celebration truly memorable. Events like Africa Day remind us that while we come from different backgrounds, culture has the power to bring us together, inspire understanding and strengthen our communities.
