Chair Collette’s Corner – Connecting with Nature

At our charity, we really value moments that help us slow down, reconnect and notice the world around us. Looking after wellbeing isn’t just about people it’s also about our connection with nature and the spaces we all share.

That’s why I wanted to share something I’m personally really passionate about: the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

Every January, people across the UK spend just one hour counting the birds they see in their garden, a local park, or even from a window or balcony. It’s free, easy to take part in, and you don’t need to be an expert just a bit of curiosity and some time to watch.

It’s fun in itself, but it’s also really important. The data people submit helps build a picture of how garden birds are doing across the country, showing which species are thriving and which need a little more support.

For me, it’s also about pausing and noticing the little things something that feels rare these days. Watching birds is simple, relaxing, and can be enjoyed alone, with family, or just as a quiet shared moment with someone else.

If you’d like to take part, you can find all the details and sign up here: RSPB Big Garden
